Success of light rail in summit spotlight Monday September 2, 2019

The success of light rail as a sustainable solution to the UK’s urban transport challenges will be put in the spotlight at a high-profile industry summit next week.

Bringing together professionals from across the sector, the annual event organised by UK Tram is being staged during a landmark year for light rail.

Alongside record-breaking patronage and customer satisfaction figures, it’s also seen other key developments, including the formation of the Light Rail Safety and Standards Board (LRSSB).

James Hammett, Managing Director of UK Tram, says that the Annual Summit will take place at a time of real strength for the UK’s light rail sector.

“The growing popularity of trams has been well documented this year, and while a number of networks are already developing extensions, there’s increasing interest in investing in light rail from across the UK,” he explained.

“The summit will enable us to reflect on these achievements whilst addressing some of the challenges that lie ahead.”

Delegates attending UK Trams 2019 Industry Annual Summit will gather together at Birmingham City Football Club to discuss the sector’s hottest topics.

Expert presentations and workshops will focus on a wide range of issues including the impact of Brexit on the industry, tackling anti-social behaviour, tramway safety and the role of the LRSSB in setting new standards.

UK Tram, the voice of the sector, is putting tramways front and centre of the debate on greener urban transport and James hopes the Summit will continue to allow its members and industry leaders to develop a clear vision for the future of light rail in the UK.

“Bringing together a phenomenal amount of experience and expertise the summit offers the ideal opportunity to further the case for light rail while providing a platform for those working in the sector to share ideas and best practice,” he added.
